Earth Day is coming up, so why not do something that makes you look great and feel great about helping the planet? Aveda and JĀSÖN Natural Cosmetics are giving women the chance to beautify while taking green action. Texans: Check out an eco-friendly beauty expo in Houston!

On Earth Day, April 22, Aveda will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for Most Money Raised for a Charity by Haircuts in a 24-Hour Period. Aveda students and stylists around the world will offer haircuts for as low as $20 in an attempt to establish a new record. Stylists will donate 100 percent of the proceeds to clean-water charities.

If you’re in New York City, head to the Aveda Institute on Spring Street, where Ricardo Dinis, Global Artistic Director for Aveda, will be giving drastic makeovers for the upcoming warm months. (Hello, cute bob or pixie cut!) The New York Aveda Institute will donate 100 percent of the proceeds to Clean Ocean Action, which restores, improves and protects the water quality in New York and New Jersey. Along with haircuts for a good cause from noon–8 p.m., the salon also will offer blowouts, massages, makeup touches and a silent auction to raise funds.

Can’t make an appointment on Earth Day? You can still help Aveda reach its goal of raising $5 million for its Clean Water Changes Lives campaign. Every year, Aveda dedicates the month of April to funding the program and has raised more than $26 million since 1999. Check the Aveda events page for Earth Month events. For example, Glendale Salonspa in Glendale, CA, is holding a silent auction to benefit the Surfrider Foundation through April 27. In Golden, CO, Rita J’s Aveda Salon is holding a Dirty Martinis for Clean Water fundraiser on April 27 to raise money for Western Resource Advocates.

Planting a tree is as easy as a click of a button when you support JĀSÖN’s collaboration with Earth Day Network’s Canopy Project, which aims to plant 10 million trees in the next five years. For every new “like” on JĀSÖN’s Facebook page through April 30, a tree will be planted via the Canopy Project.

If you’re in Houston on April 21, stop by Eco Chic Expo, thrown by M.A.D.E Cosmetics and Balanced Beauty Systems at the Holiday Inn at 8111 Kirby Dr., where you’ll find eco-friendly products and door prizes. Admission is free.
